It’s amazing how God plans out our lives, even when we think we’re in control. We’re not! Letting go of trying to control my fate has been my best life decision.

Being on “Path to 138”, I wanted to wait to go to Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago until later, perhaps as Church number 100 or 138. Nudged by God, I attended mass December 24th and then the midnight mass there and I marveled at how beautiful the church and the services were. I picked up the Church bulletin and read about the parish news, and a spark was ignited when I saw a paragraph about a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It didn’t take long for me to decide, despite some initial concerns about safety, and my decision was to go! God had planned it for me.

For the first time in my life being a pilgrim was going to the Holy Land. As Stephanie (a parishioner from Holy Name) would say “Go God”!
Feeling like a lowly shepherd, unworthy of such a remarkable experience.

Here is my testimony: To be a pilgrim is much different than a tourist. Although, this pilgrim did buy souvenirs and took A LOT pictures! Thinking all the while, my eyes are seeing where Jesus was born, lived, baptized, preached, and temporally died. This isn’t me in front of TV wishing to be there. It’s me being there and feeling all the historical places in real time.

My experience of The Holy Land has continued even after coming home. Hearing religious music and going to Mass has become even more powerful to me. All because God planned my path to The Holy Land. Living has new meaning, because of the peace planted in me to share with others. This was what God wanted me to bring back as a pilgrim.
