(91) December 9, 2018. Before knowing Cardinal Cupich was to be the Celebrant this morning at St. Ambrose, my plan was to attend Mass there. It is their 115 years anniversary as a parish in Hyde Pk, Chicago.
His Eminence came to celebrate with the faith community and spoke about graces God gives us. Cardinal Cupich began by telling us about a memorial service last week for “Our Lady of the Angels” school. The fire took the lives of 92 children and 3 nuns sixty years ago. After the memorial mass a 95 year old woman spoke to Cardinal Cupich. Her 10 year old daughter perished in the fire. All those years she kept her daughter’s memorial prayer card always with her. And now wanted Cardinal Cupich to have it.
Passing on her daughter’s story to keep her memory alive. His Eminence was deeply moved and showed us the prayer card. On one side the little girl’s picture and the other side an angel holding a child’s hand, crossing a bridge. By God’s grace the child was lead back home to Him.
And at St. Ambrose there is graces abound. Multicultural, vibrant music ministry and a faith community that is welcoming to all new comers.
