(33) October 28,2017. Chose St. James in Willow Springs to celebrate Mass, today. This week there are special masses remembering and praying for the dead. Two people came to my mind. A little girl who asked her Mom to read her a bedtime story. Her Mom said not tonight, tomorrow. The next day the little girl was crushed by a truck while standing on a corner with her grandmother. At her wake, her Mom told me never wait for tomorrow to read to your daughter. As we wept viewing her little girl in a small coffin wearing a white dress.

The other is my Wela. My regret was never making time to make tamales with her. The love she put into making them was the main ingredient that brought our large family together every holiday. The last large family gathering was the day we buried her. And since then no homemade tamales comes close to how good hers were. So this week my thoughts and prayers will be for all those who’ve died and live on in my memories.
