(41) December 24th ~25th, 2017. As a Catholic there are 3 important words that gives meaning to my life. Obligation, privilege and devotion. It is my obligation to serve God who saved me from depression that almost drove me to suicide. Long story short, His saving grace saved me from myself. Although serving God really doesn’t feel like an obligation. It is a privilege each and every week to go to Mass and give thanks for how much God has given me. My devotion to God and the Church has opened my eyes to see a world that has so much beauty.
For the 4th Sunday of Advent, God led me to Holy Name Cathedral. Attending the 7am Mass, the presider was Fr.John Boivin. In his homily, he spoke about the Annunciation. How The Virgin Mary accepted God’s will for her to bring Salvation to the world. By giving “The Word” birth. And how the Archangel Gabriel didn’t tell Mary how much sorrow she was going to endure for her devotion to God.
Returning to Holy Name Cathedral for the Christmas Midnight Mass, Cardinal Cupich gave the homily. Presenting a question to a completely filled Church. “Who will be the last Catholic in your family”? As Catholics, we are obligated, privileged and should be devoted to God. Who gives meaning to our lives. My prayer is not to be the last Catholic in my family.
