(61) May 13, 2018. Having no plans this morning where to worship, God lead me to “Immaculate Heart of Mary”. This week was spiritually uncomfortable for me. Hearing the news about the division and protesting in Jerusalem, sadden me.
Today at Mass met Lena, who grew up in this Church. She too spoke about the past of her parish being segregated. The present of her parish being in need of funding and leadership. And very sad about her parish’s future. Declining members, warring gangs in their “back of the yards” neighborhood. And heartbreaking of all is the need for spiritual ministers.
Today’s homily touched on just that. Priests are limited to how much their ministry can do. It’s up to the laypersons who hear The Word and can exemplify God’s love. We can live peacefully, if only we know how to and want to.
