(135) October 8 & 12, 2019. Traveled to Mexico and had a most humbling experience. First to San Miguel de Allende where Padre Jose Luis Hernandez is pastor at “San Rafael”. A young priest who exemplifies a passion to serve the Church and truly cares about his vocation.

What really brought me to this part of the world was to experience riding horseback up a mountain to celebrate Mass atop of “El Cerro de Culiacan”. It took us 3 hours to get up the mountain and the road was paved by natural stones. Once arriving it was an amazing sight to see 1,200 horses and riders. Plus many more people who traveled up by cars, pickups and motorcycles. Oh and some walked up by foot. This was the first time Padre Mario Mosquera Moreno served Mass atop of the mountain. He is the new pastor of “Santa Rita de Casia”, in Victoria de Cortazar.

It took another 3 hours to descend and was difficult for me, not accustomed to such a long ride. Every part of my body ached. But what got me through to the end was thinking about “The Passion”. And praying to finish the journey where we dismounted to kiss the cross and give thanks for our return. This experience has brought me closer to my heritage and faith.
