Saint Donatus Blue Island

August 8, 2021. Quoting from Fr. Diego F. Cadavid’s homily today, “Jesus is the Lighthouse that leads us out of danger and darkness”.

For me there is no better way to get through life than to comprehend scripture and today’s messages reinforces my need to look for The Lighthouse which led me to St. Donatus to celebrate Mass.

In the first reading, we heard Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal and put their god to the test, they wanted to kill him. But God kept Elijah on the course of righteousness even when he faced darkness.

Then in the next scripture, there were people of God complaining with grievances of bitterness, fury and anger. They were told to let all that go and be imitators of Christ in compassion, kindness and forgiveness.

To finalize today’s message in the Gospel, Jesus reminded His followers to stay the course, because The Bread of Life and Lighthouse is through Him alone.

It was an unexpected event that God lead me here to also celebrate the feast of Saint Donatus. For one hundred and sixteen years the parish has been honoring their patron Saint with a procession and carnival. It was also good to meet

Blue Island’s Mayor Fred Bilotto and parishioner, who was most gracious in sharing his Church’s history. This house of worship is a beautiful beacon of light that radiates from her people.
