(83) October 13, 2018. Celebrated this evening’s Mass at “St. Vincent de Paul” in Chicago.

Fr. Jeremy Dixon spoke to the congregation about the Church’s hardships. It’s heartbreaking how the Church is being judged and criticized. Speaking from my own experience from being hurt and leaving a parish because of it, it wasn’t the Church’s fault. It was mine and my wrong decisions made. Since leaving my parish, my heart was broken and now has been healed. All of this is by the grace of God’s forgiveness. To truly understand this sort of mercy one must have empathy. This is why hymns like “Amazing Grace” means so much to me.

The Church has so much more to offer than just Baptisms, weddings, and funeral masses. Even in ordinary times, the mass feeds the hungry soul. No other place can nourish mind, body and spirit like the universal Church can. Attending Mass has been the path for healing and forgiveness. My own personal miracle of healing happens without fail during the Eucharist. And for that it’s unimaginable to turn my back on the Church.
