(100) February 10, 2019. It was family Mass and the Church was filled with beautiful children of God in all stages of life.
In Greek the parish name is “Ayia Pisti, Elpitha, Agapi”. Translation, “Ss. Faith, Hope & Charity”. Named after three girls, ages twelve, ten and nine. Along with their mother they died a brutal death for being Christians in pagan Rome. They had the choice to denounce their faith, but chose to die as Martyrs.
As Fr. Marty O’Donovan delivered his homily, he asked the fourth grade class that was sitting in the 1st three pews, “who is a hero”? They gave all good answers, but everyone’s favorite was Jesus. Concluding a most powerful message that even the young children could understand, Fr. Marty quoted St. Francis of Assisi, “And God asked me to rebuild his Church. Not by brick and mortar, but by Evangelization”.
What the Church faces today has been through all ages. Evil trying to destroy what Jesus, three little girls and countless others died for. So that we and our generations to come may have a place to worship God.
