(116) June 2, 2019. To my new friend, Eva Diaz, thank you for inviting me to St. Ephrem to celebrate Mass. Hearing the children’s choir chant in Aramaic gave me goosebumps. And each time during Mass when Jesus’s language was spoken, the goosebumps returned.

As Fr. Fawaz Elia Kako spoke, the children looked with attentiveness. His message was to share our faith with others through good works and words. What we receive from being fed at Mass is our obligation to live by, to be genuinely caring to family, friends and strangers.

And today this faith community cared for me, briefly as a stranger, then as a friend and adopted immediately as a sister in Christ.
My new Syrian family is in need of a new Church. This growing faith community has outgrown their little Church building. Hope one day to revisit St. Ephrem Parish in a larger Church and hear the children once more chanting in Aramaic.
