June 6, 2021. At today’s Mass celebration it was also the deconsecration of St. Gerard Majella. Only God knows all the tears that rolled down the eyes of those who once came here to celebrate sacraments and final masses for the dead.
Befitting to this day the first reading came from Moses preparing the people to “heed and do”. The second reading in a letter to the people, “cleanse our conscience from the dead to worship the living God”. Then in The Gospel, Jesus gave instruction by preparing His disciples at the last supper, “Take it, this is my body”.
With genuine care for the people of St. Gerard Majella, Fr. Pedro Campos said this, “What we’re sharing here is the last supper and now we’ll move to a new upper room to continue to partake with others, The Body and Blood of Jesus Christ”.
As the deconsecration recessional began, the status of St. Gerard Majella was carried out. Next was the Monstrance held by Fr. Pedro where adoration will continue at St. John the Baptist.
The doors have closed to this upper room, but as those before us were told, Jesus leads us to new pastures to join Him again.
