National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe at Marytown

132) September 22, 2019. The plan today was to celebrate Mass at “St. Mary of the Lake” “Mundelein Seminary”. Only google’s information was incorrect with Mass times. After taking all my pictures of the Church and grounds, a couple directed us down the road to the “National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe” at “Marytown”. This was God’s plan that we visited the Seminary and then to worshiped with The Franciscan Friars.

The grounds of the Seminary is about peacefulness, beauty and an infusion of God’s presence. It was a preparation for prayer, worship and communion with the faith community of Marytown.

After Mass, we toured a small museum in the Church basement. Pictures of the Holocaust and of St. Maximilian Kolbe, told a story that should never be forgotten. Fr. Kolbe traded places with a Jewish man next in line to die. And because of that the Jewish man lived to tell of St. Maximilian Kolbe’s sacrificial story.
